Is AR Right for Me?

Academic Review is different from most exam prep programs. While other programs have a much more hands-on approach geared to teaching the content and the exam as a whole; Academic Review utilizes a “Teach by Testing” method. This method allows you to evaluate your knowledge and progress through the use of practice questions and exams. Taking these results, the program then directs you to specific areas of content learning that is tailored to your strengths and weaknesses.

While our program is highly successful, we understand that this style of learning may not be for every candidate.

EPPP Online Study Program

Academic Review is best for candidates who identify with one or more of the following:

  • Prefers to study alone. Academic Review is completely online and does not offer live one-on-one coaching through our services. However, we do have workshops that complement our study program where you would interact with other candidates and instructors.
  • Has received their Doctoral degree within 2-3 years. Most candidates within this time period still have a strong grasp on the content taught during their studies, and just need guidance with how to take the EPPP.
  • A visual learner. Given the nature of our program, most visual learners have an easier time studying with online-only study materials.
  • Needs the convenience of studying anywhere, at any time. Since our program is online, you can take your studying everywhere you go. You just need to have access to the internet. No need to carry around study volumes or flashcards when studying.

Understanding the EPPP

The Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP) is a knowledge-based exam developed by the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) used in the United States and most Canadian provinces. The exam was created to evaluate a Psychologist’s competency in crucial areas of practice.

The EPPP contains 225 questions, 175 question are scored and 50 questions on the exam are considered pretest items. The pretest items are not counted towards a candidate’s final score. The ASPPB recommends a passing score between 450 and 500 depending on level of practice; however, each state board sets their own required passing score, so it is important to check your jurisdiction’s passing score requirement before testing.

The EPPP identifies eight (8) critical areas of understanding and centers their examination questions around these domains. The domains and examination weight for each are the following:

  • Biological Bases of Behavior – 10%
  • Cognitive-Affective Bases of Behavior – 12%
  • Social and Cultural Bases of Behavior – 11%
  • Growth and Lifespan Development – 12%
  • Assessment and Diagnosis – 16%
  • Treatment, Intervention, and Prevention and Supervision – 15%
  • Research Methods and Statistics – 7%
  • Ethical/Legal/Professional Issues – 16%
